ISLE OF SKYE

80 miles west of Water's Edge

Enjoy a day visiting this famous Scottish Island

The largest of Scotland's islands, Skye is always a favourite, it has a wild and mountainous interior the peaks, pinnacles and ridges of the Cuillin Hills are among the finest rock climbing areas in Europe. The capital of the island is Portree which has a  harbour at the head of a sheltered bay. Dunvegan Castle this is the most visited place on Skye, it has been the home of the chiefs of the clan of the MacLeods of Dunvegan for over 700 years. The castle and its grounds are open on weekdays from Easter to October. There are boat trips (in the summer season) to the island breeding grounds of the grey seals. To reach Skye from the mainland you now have to cross  the new bridge. Plockton is a small village on the mainland very close to the Isle of Skye and is a delightful place to visit on a day out to Skye.
