THE SHORT JOURNEY FROM INVERNESS TO FORTROSEAs you leave Inverness and drive towards the Kessock bridge looking over towards the right on a clear day you will see Fortrose over the water. You are soon in the beautiful countryside of the Black Isle in Easter Ross a truly spectacular part of the world. Onwards towards to Munlochy, keep a look out for red kites soaring high in the sky above and highland the cattle with their long tousled hair and quite fearsome long horns, they will stand and stare as you pass by. Munlochy bay is quite spectacular at high tide – there is no road down to the shore. After passing through Munlochy you pass through fields of barley, one day destined for the distillery where Scotland's most famous export is made. The hedges and hillsides are dotted with a profusion of golden gorse bushes in the spring and early summer. Wild roses follow with there joyful delicate shades of pink and the woods are filled with bluebells in the month of May. Avoch is a delightful small fishing village where there are many small craft in the harbour's waters. From here you can take a thrilling sea trip to see the famous Dolphins at Chanonry Point . After Avoch you follow the road beside the sea, at low tide many sea birds frequent the beach, herons stand stately as they wait for a tasty treat to come their way. On entering the village of Fortrose you are at your journey's end to Water's Edge which nestles in a beautiful garden very close to the picturesque harbour and just a stones throw from the sea. Fortrose is a picturesque fishing village on the shores of the Moray Firth just 20 minutes drive from Inverness. At the harbour you will find the Chanonry Sailing Club just along the beach from Water's Edge. In the village there are all the usual shops a quality Antique shop selling many Scottish treasures and November saw the opening of a Belgian chocolate shop the chocolates are home made at the shop they are delicious. An excellent restaurant - the Eilean Dubh (Gaelic for 'Black Island') is minutes walk away from Water's edge the menu offers sea food at its very best and a frequently changing menu makes this restaurant, we think one of the very best you will find in the Scottish Highlands . From the village there are many lovely walks by the sea and up the hills to give you splendid spectacular views.
